đź‘‹ So, a little about me.

I write articles and make videos about people and power in western Sydney.

I lead a small team of reporters in covering the region from Parramatta Square for the city’s most read newspaper, The Sydney Morning Herald.

Here are some things I write about:

  • local councils, especially planning matters, corruption and urban design;

  • how cities and regions within the west are changing;

  • cultural life, including how different communities think about what it means to be a Sydneysider;

  • how western Sydney is perceived by the rest of Sydney and Australia, and much more.

Basically, if it’s in the west, I want to know about it.

In 2025, I won the Walkley Mid-Year Prize for public interest reporting for a series of articles I wrote exposing alleged misuses of power at the highest levels of the City of Parramatta council. The reporting led to a lengthy ICAC public inquiry.

👨‍💻 Why (and how) to contact me

If you’ve ever thought, “Someone really needs to report on this”, here’s one thing to consider: journalists can only report what we know. So we need someone like you to tell us.

If you contact me via the means below with something I should investigate, I will keep your name and identity confidential. I have never revealed a source or had someone exposed as a result of my reporting. I don’t intend to now.

Here are three ways to get in touch:

  1. Signal. The secure messaging app. This app is very common and uses end-to-end encryption, which means only the sender and receiver of the messages can read them. My username is @anthonysegaert.79

  2. Email. You know how email works. anthony.segaert@smh.com.au

  3. Social media. Less secure but very easy. DM me on Instagram, TikTok or LinkedIn.

  4. Post. A pretty good way of passing on confidential information without leaving a digital trace. Send letters to:
