Our classrooms
We have two beautiful and light-filled classrooms for children aged 2-3 years, and 4-5 years: the Smartie Room and Cookie Room.
The Smartie Room is for children aged 2-3 years, who are learning new things about their world and themselves every day. It features a rich array of play-based activities to support children’s learning and growth in foundational skills (including social, emotional, communicative, cognitive and physical skills).
The Cookie Room is for children aged 4-5 years, and is located upstairs. Here, children are supported to grow in their independence and sense of self, and are prepared to flourish at school through a play-based educational program.
School readiness
We care deeply about helping your child flourish in all aspects of life. As such, we provide a top school readiness program to support the development of confidence and independence skills that are so crucial for children getting ready to head to big school (kindergarten). Educators focus on three pillars to provide your child with the smoothest-possible transition:
Social and emotional readiness
This includes children being away from parents/caregivers for a whole school day; relating well to other personalities; seeking help when required; taking turns and sharing; and growing in resilience.
Practical readiness
Children grow in their ability to sit and listen during group times, concentrate on tasks to completion, follow instructions, take responsibility for their belongings, and follow routines.
Evidence of learning
Through the program, children learn to write their first and last name; recognise (and, for some, write) all letters in the alphabet; write up to 10 and count up to 20; tell the time, recognise basic shapes and money exchange; and practice basic addition and subtraction.
This might seem like a lot for your child to do in just a few years! We love our children dearly and want to help them grow each day — we know our little people are capable of a lot!
Nutritious food and menu
Healthy choices are a lifelong habit, and they start at a young age. With an onsite chef producing delicious and healthy meals everyday, children are able to stay healthy and experience new tastes and cultures. Children also take some food ingredients from the preschool’s own native foods garden, helping them to understand the entire process of food from garden to table.
See a sample menu — we bet you’ll want to come to preschool too!
Intergenerational program
We’re proud to be partnering with a team of world-class researchers and community workers to create an intergenerational integration initiative — a program that creates connections between preschoolers and senior citizens within the community through structured play.
It started when the ABC joined our preschool to film the second series of the critically-acclaimed Old People’s Home for Four Year Olds in 2020. We’re working on a program to create a sustainable, community-based model for intergenerational integration at our preschool and beyond.
